Curriculum Ideology in the Bilingual Course this Term

2021年10月17日 留下评论

I have published two posts to introduce curriculum ideology in the course Human Factors Engineering. I am now teaching another bilingual course Human Factors and Ergonomics in Consumer Product Design this term. During the teaching process, I still add ideological items in Chapter 3 and Chapter 9.

When introducing user-centered system engineering design method of smart product in Chapter 3, through the introduction of the policy background of the rapid growth of human factors engineering discipline since the “19th National Congress”, we learned that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. The main contradiction has been transformed into the contradiction between people’s growing needs for a better life and the unbalanced and inadequate development. Human factors and ergonomics provides strong support for solving the main social contradiction in this new era. In current electronics product design process, user-centered micro-innovation is encouraged to improve user experience and stimulate consumption potential, demonstrating the supporting role of user experience design in promoting supply-side reforms and quality-strengthening national strategic actions.

In the Chapter 9, user interaction process with product design model is introduced to enumerate the actual application process of Huawei Human Factors & User Experience Laboratory in mobile user interface, which helps students establish a right confidence in the broad application prospects of human factors and ergonomics, a human-oriented scientific thinking method and the spirit of facing challenges in the study and work.

Summary on The Course “Human Factors Engineering” Last Semester

2021年09月10日 留下评论

The course “Human Factors Engineering” is a professional elective course for the major of human resource management. It was the first time for me to teach the course for Human Resource Management students last semester. Two other teachers with experience in this course have completed the teaching tasks of this course for Industrial Engineering students.

Teaching methods of multimedia combined with blackboard writing were adopted in class. In order to introduce the research methodological issues and the latest research progress and research fields of this course in human resource management, the “Analysis of Application Cases of Cognitive Neuroscience in the Field of Human Resource Management” was added in addition to completing the basic teaching tasks according to the traditional teaching method which made teaching effect better, broadened horizons of students, and had a deeper understanding of their own majors. In addition, through appropriate thinking and homework, students would be able to cultivate the ability to master knowledge.

Because this course is an elective course and some students did not pay enough attention to it. Class teaching effect was not satisfactory, which eventually led to inadequate attention to the curriculum and low final exam scores. This phenomenon prominently reflected that students were not active in learning and had not formed an objective understanding of their profession and their own development. They still had not formed a strong desire to learn and cultivate good learning habits. Of course, the emergence of the above problems might also be related to the applicability of teaching content and majors. The teaching content and textbooks were exactly the same as what for Industrial Engineering. The differences in teaching content caused by major differences were not considered. Based on the above situation, I hope that in future teaching process, learning enthusiasm and initiative on students should be appropriately guided through professional recognition, and certain disciplinary constraints should be appropriately formed, such as class questioning, homework completion in class, assignments after class. At the same time the new round of syllabus revision will be used to modify the experimental content in this course, and improve the ability to apply the knowledge of this course.

Start Preparing for Graduation Design Topics for The New Year

2020年12月31日 留下评论

At this time each year, we must start to prepare for graduation design topics for students who will graduate next year. With reference to previous years, students freely choose their graduation design instructors, and then further adjustments will be made later. Since the college began to implement the tutorial system, most students have chosen their own tutor when choosing an instructor under no special circumstances. Of course, there are exceptions. For example, my research direction is still unpopular in the department, so I will naturally choose fewer students.

At the same time, I also begin to prepare for topics on the graduation project. The topics can be prepared by the instructor, or students can make their own propositions, and the teacher can check and realize two-way topic selection. Also, in the previous blog post “Experience of Tutorial Students Participating in Research Training Program”, it was mentioned that in terms of topic selection for graduation design, considering that some students have gone through scientific research training before who have accumulated some relevant skills and experience, they continued to improve the original topic selection on the original basis which could reflect the typical research topic selection inheritance and continuity.

Based on the current research direction and subject content, I also initially made a list of topics.

1. Topics on virtual simulation for Ergonomic design

(1) Modeling and improved design of musical rocking chair based on Pro/E

(2) Modeling and simulation design of new foldable dining chair/bar chair based on Pro/E

Curriculum Ideology Added to the New Curriculum Syllabus Recently

2020年12月26日 留下评论

In one blog posted in September “Curriculum Ideology “Human Factors Engineering” Case Records on Class Teaching“, curriculum ideological education involved in the teaching process of Human Factors Engineering was mentioned. In the recent revision of the new syllabus, the two points of ideological integration mentioned in the article have been included in the syllabus, and two more have been added.

When introducing the application of Human Factors Engineering in Chapter 1, through the introduction of the policy background of the rapid growth of Human Factors Engineering disciplines since the “19th National Congress”, we learned that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. The contradiction in our society is that between the growth of a better life and the unbalanced and inadequate development. Human Factors provide strong support for solving the major social contradiction in this new era. The current application of Human Factors Engineering research methods to the organization and management process encourages user-centered micro-innovation, improves user experience, and stimulates potential consumption. It demonstrates the supporting role of user experience design in promoting supply-side reforms and quality-strengthening national strategic actions. The education of the core values of socialism in the new era is integrated into the curriculum and the entire teaching process, highlighting value guidance, knowledge transfer and ability training. It helps students accurately grasp the basic national conditions, master the scientific world outlook and methodology, and promote the establishment of correct world outlooks and values.

In the process of the in-class experimental instruction, it is pointed out that the in-class experiments are human resource survey, eye movement evaluation and environmental evaluation, emphasizing the important significance of Human Factors Engineering research method to human resource management. Human resource management needs to use “people-oriented” values to carry out organizational design and evaluation, such as “user-centered”, “user experience”, “emphasis on users”, etc., which are closely integrated with user research. The experiments can help students build confidence in the broad application prospects of Human Factors Engineering, establish scientific thinking methods and the spirit of facing challenges in their studies.

Prepare for the Guidance on Three Discipline Competitions to be Launched Next Year

2020年12月17日 留下评论

The 2020 freshmen have been enrolled for a few months, and the list of tutorial students has also been arranged. At the end of November, the first meeting of the 2020 tutorial students was arranged. On the meeting the history and development status of Industrial Engineering was mainly introduced, focusing on the analysis of the directions of Industrial Engineering and the research content, history and progress of Human Factors Engineering as an important research direction. My research direction was also briefly introduced. I explained to them that three universities currently cooperate with us adopting a joint training method with each team, which is not an official training program. If students are willing to train jointly with the three universities, they need to appropriately adjust the previously selected research direction according to the research focus of the university chosen. At the undergraduate level, according to the research focus and needs of the university, students should participate in scientific research training here, such as applying for SRTP and completing it on schedule, participate in related discipline competitions, experimental research and writing and publishing papers, etc., and participate in the research team for a period of time, preparing for later post-reduction or postgraduate entrance examination or employment.

As one of the important contents of the guidance work of the tutorial system, it guides students to participate in various discipline competitions and enhances their professional learning enthusiasm and initiative. Recently, students will be arranged to prepare for the “Challenge Cup” school-level competition to be launched at the end of this year and two discipline competitions to be launched next year. One is “National College Student Sports Industry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition” to be launched in May or September next year. The other is “Tsinghua IE Bright Sword” contest that starts every October. The topic selection of this year’s “Challenge Cup” school-level competition is planned to continue on the basis of previous research, focusing on the use of mobile devices and the impact of MSDs. The topic on “National College Student Sports Industry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition” is planned to carry out dynamic sitting research and design. It already has some design foundations in the past. It is necessary to further organize the design logic, that is, how to start from the theory and implement the design according to human factors design process specifications. The topic on “Tsinghua IE Bright Sword” competition is planned to carry out an investigation of chronic musculoskeletal injuries among heads-down tribes. In the three discipline competitions, students under the guidance of the tutorial system have been arranged as team leaders to start team formation and division of labor. I hope that with the joint efforts of everyone, there will be gains from next year.
