Curriculum Ideology in the Bilingual Course this Term

2021年10月17日 留下评论

I have published two posts to introduce curriculum ideology in the course Human Factors Engineering. I am now teaching another bilingual course Human Factors and Ergonomics in Consumer Product Design this term. During the teaching process, I still add ideological items in Chapter 3 and Chapter 9.

When introducing user-centered system engineering design method of smart product in Chapter 3, through the introduction of the policy background of the rapid growth of human factors engineering discipline since the “19th National Congress”, we learned that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. The main contradiction has been transformed into the contradiction between people’s growing needs for a better life and the unbalanced and inadequate development. Human factors and ergonomics provides strong support for solving the main social contradiction in this new era. In current electronics product design process, user-centered micro-innovation is encouraged to improve user experience and stimulate consumption potential, demonstrating the supporting role of user experience design in promoting supply-side reforms and quality-strengthening national strategic actions.

In the Chapter 9, user interaction process with product design model is introduced to enumerate the actual application process of Huawei Human Factors & User Experience Laboratory in mobile user interface, which helps students establish a right confidence in the broad application prospects of human factors and ergonomics, a human-oriented scientific thinking method and the spirit of facing challenges in the study and work.

Curriculum Ideology Added to the New Curriculum Syllabus Recently

In one blog posted in September “Curriculum Ideology “Human Factors Engineering” Case Records on Class Teaching“, curriculum ideological education involved in the teaching process of Human Factors Engineering was mentioned. In the recent revision of the new syllabus, the two points of ideological integration mentioned in the article have been included in the syllabus, and two more have been added.

When introducing the application of Human Factors Engineering in Chapter 1, through the introduction of the policy background of the rapid growth of Human Factors Engineering disciplines since the “19th National Congress”, we learned that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. The contradiction in our society is that between the growth of a better life and the unbalanced and inadequate development. Human Factors provide strong support for solving the major social contradiction in this new era. The current application of Human Factors Engineering research methods to the organization and management process encourages user-centered micro-innovation, improves user experience, and stimulates potential consumption. It demonstrates the supporting role of user experience design in promoting supply-side reforms and quality-strengthening national strategic actions. The education of the core values of socialism in the new era is integrated into the curriculum and the entire teaching process, highlighting value guidance, knowledge transfer and ability training. It helps students accurately grasp the basic national conditions, master the scientific world outlook and methodology, and promote the establishment of correct world outlooks and values.

In the process of the in-class experimental instruction, it is pointed out that the in-class experiments are human resource survey, eye movement evaluation and environmental evaluation, emphasizing the important significance of Human Factors Engineering research method to human resource management. Human resource management needs to use “people-oriented” values to carry out organizational design and evaluation, such as “user-centered”, “user experience”, “emphasis on users”, etc., which are closely integrated with user research. The experiments can help students build confidence in the broad application prospects of Human Factors Engineering, establish scientific thinking methods and the spirit of facing challenges in their studies.

Curriculum Ideology “Human Factors Engineering” Case Records on Class Teaching

After the start of the new semester, I undertook the task of teaching a course “Human Factors Engineering”. In fact, I taught it twice a few years ago, but I didn’t continue yet. This course is offered as an elective course for the students in related majors of business.

In Chapter 1 of Introduction, when introducing the development process of Human Factors Engineering in China, it was mentioned that Tsinghua University opened the course of industrial psychology in 1930. Chen Li published “Introduction to Industrial Psychology” in 1935, which was the earliest book introducing industrial psychology in China. Chen Li was the founder of Chinese industrial psychology, who was once served as the principal of my alma mater, the originator of the Department of Psychology, and an old gentleman we respect very much. He had been engaged in industrial psychology since the Republic of China. Researching and carrying out investigations and studies in various factories showed his patriotism and professionalism. Under the active promotion of the older generation of industrial psychology researchers, Human Factors Engineering discipline in China had been developed rapidly. In 1989, the Chinese Ergonomics Society was established, and in 1991 it became a full member of the International Ergonomics Association. In Chapter 3 of Working Environment and Color, when introducing the basic heat balance equation of the human body, it explains the importance of the micro-climate cooling system to workers in high temperature and high humidity environment. They need such a system in the enclosed protective clothing. Its main function is to absorb the thermal load of the human body, to maintain a constant body core temperature, to reduce thermal damage, to improve human working efficiency in high-heat environment, and to extend working hours, such as a space suit specially designed for astronauts. However, in the battle against COVID-19 this year, the majority of front-line medical staff wore enclosed protective clothing for a long time in the same high temperature and humidity environment, but there was no ventilation and cooling system to improve the microclimate environment in their clothes. They had no complaints and had no hesitation, which showed their patriotism and professionalism.
